Black-Owned Midtown: Now on the Streetcar
Here's a secret the official guide misses: thanks to the new Main Street streetcar, Midtown is now an easy, car-free ride from downtown and the Fan Festival — and it's packed with some of the best Black-owned kitchens in the city. Cajun, Caribbean, soul food, and a rum bar, all along the line. Hop off and eat well.
Getting here: Take the free KC Streetcar south down Main Street. Several stops put you within a short walk of the spots below.

Getting Here
Midtown runs along the new Main Street streetcar line — a free, continuous ride from the River Market in the north all the way down past the Plaza. The Main Street spots above are steps from a stop; Broadway and Gillham are a short walk or quick rideshare from the line.
Black-Owned River Market & City Market
The River Market is the north anchor of the free KC Streetcar — a historic market district full of food, produce, and weekend energy, right by the river. It's an easy ride from the Fan Festival, and home to some standout Black-owned spots worth seeking out.
Getting here: Take the free KC Streetcar north to the City Market / River Market stop. Straight shot from downtown and the Fan Festival — no car needed.

The River Market sits at the north end of the free streetcar line — a quick, free ride from downtown and the Fan Festival. Saturdays are busiest (and best) at City Market.
